What does a solar system cost?

Cost depends on system size, roof covering and household electrics – not on where you live. Guideline prices per kilowatt of capacity (kWp):

Incentives in the Canton of Schaffhausen

Here too, the central incentive is the federal one-off feed-in incentive via Pronovo – a one-off investment subsidy, independent of the canton (around CHF 360 per kWp for the typical roof system, as of July 2026). The way to get it is a properly submitted Pronovo application.

The Canton of Schaffhausen also runs an energy incentive programme that is slightly adjusted every year. Individual municipalities – including the City of Schaffhausen and Thayngen – grant additional contributions; these are automatically applied for via the cantonal application procedure, so no second application is needed. Schaffhausen is comfortable in tax terms: the investment counts as property maintenance and is deductible from income – spreadable over up to three consecutive tax years. For larger systems, this can bring more than some direct contributions; details in the article Tax deduction for solar systems.

What does EKS pay for solar power?

In 2026, Elektrizitätswerk des Kantons Schaffhausen (EKS) remunerates exported solar power according to the federal reference market price – the quarterly averaged market price. For systems up to 30 kW, the statutory minimum remuneration of 6.0 Rp./kWh applies as a floor. Remuneration therefore fluctuates from quarter to quarter but is protected on the downside.

You can market the ecological added value – the guarantee of origin – separately; up to 3.00 Rp./kWh is possible in 2026. Details: EKS feed-in tariff; comparison of all utilities: feed-in tariffs in the region. The current quarterly publication of EKS always applies.

Photovoltaics in the Canton of Schaffhausen: the numbers

In the Canton of Schaffhausen, 3,344 photovoltaic systems with 87.0 MW are in operation – with an average of 26.0 kWp, rather small systems, i.e. classic single-family home roofs. Permits and notification: how it works in the Canton of Schaffhausen

Reasonably adapted solar systems on roofs and – since 2026 – on facades do not need a building permit in building and agricultural zones (Art. 18a RPG, Art. 54 Building Act SH). They are notified to your municipality's building authority using the solar systems notification form.

• Deadline: the notification form must be submitted 30 days before construction starts; the municipality confirms receipt and checks within this period whether the notification procedure applies. The notification is free of charge.
• Documents: notification form with system type and size, and a site plan with the system marked – both in duplicate.
• Building permit required: on cultural and natural monuments, in ISOS-A townscapes (including Schaffhausen, Stein am Rhein, Hallau, Neunkirch, Thayngen and Wilchingen), in townscapes of cantonal importance and for inventoried properties – the procedure map in the canton's geoportal shows which procedure applies to your building.
• Commercial advantage: in industrial and commercial zones, solar systems only ever require notification, regardless of design.
• After construction: report the system to the Office for Property Valuation so that the building insurance cover applies – this is not reported automatically.

What our quote includes – and what it doesn't

The most common worry before signing isn't the price but the question of what gets added at the end. That's why we show both.

Included: planning and design, materials (modules, inverter, mounting system, cabling), scaffolding, installation, the electrical connection by our own specialist company, commissioning and measurement, registration with the grid operator and the incentive application to Pronovo – we submit it for you.

Shown separately: anything added in individual cases appears as its own item in the quote, not in a lump sum. The most common case: if the existing meter distribution board – the fuse box – is not suitable for the system and needs to be adapted, we invoice this separately. Depending on the property, official fees and work provided by the client may also apply.

Payment in stages, linked to project progress. Under our terms and conditions (AGB), that's 30% on placing the order, 50% on delivery of the main components and 20% after commissioning and acceptance. We agree different terms on a project basis; the arrangement in your quote always applies.

Who is liable for what

After the company bankruptcies in the Swiss solar industry, this is the question that counts in the end – and it has three different answers:

• Product and performance warranties lie with the manufacturer of the modules, inverter and storage. A manufacturer's warranty is only ever as reliable as the manufacturer behind it – that's why, when choosing products, we also consider who will still be reachable if something goes wrong.
• The installation warranty lies with us: installation, electrical work, commissioning. That's the part we honour directly.
• Business liability insurance: as an installation company, we carry liability insurance.

In the event of a fault, you have one point of contact – us – regardless of whose component is affected.
