In the Canton of Schwyz, there is no cantonal incentive for photovoltaics – incentives come via the federal one-off feed-in incentive and the tax deduction, and individual municipalities may add to them. What does a solar system cost?
Cost depends on system size, roof covering and household electrics – not on where you live. Guideline prices per kilowatt of capacity (kWp):

Incentives in the Canton of Schwyz: the honest situation
Let's start with the inconvenient news: the Canton of Schwyz pays no cantonal incentive for photovoltaics. Solar thermal systems may be treated differently, but electricity production with PV is not. This isn't an exception – several cantons forgo it, because the main incentive comes from the federal government anyway.
The central incentive is therefore the federal one-off feed-in incentive via Pronovo – a one-off investment subsidy, independent of the canton (around CHF 360 per kWp for the typical roof system, as of July 2026). The way to get it is a properly submitted Pronovo application.
There's also the tax deduction: the investment counts as property maintenance and is deductible from taxable income – for both cantonal and federal tax. Note: incentives received are deducted from the deductible amount. Individual municipalities may have additional contributions; these can be checked via energiefranken.ch. What does your utility pay for solar power?
In the Canton of Schwyz, there is not one tariff but several – your address determines the grid operator, and you can't switch. What we have documented is the Höfe district: in 2026, EW Höfe pays according to the federal quarterly averaged reference market price, always paying the higher value of the market price and the statutory minimum remuneration.
How much it fluctuates was clearly shown in 2026: in the first quarter, the reference market price was 10.266 Rp./kWh, in the second only 3.896 Rp./kWh – and thus below the statutory floor. For systems up to 30 kWp, the 6.0 Rp./kWh has applied since then, not the market value. EW Höfe does not purchase guarantees of origin – they remain freely marketable. The real consequence is the same everywhere: with a market-price-linked tariff, self-consumption carries the calculation, not export. Since 2026, there's a second option – the local electricity community (LEG), which allows surplus power to be sold to the neighbourhood via the public grid.
Photovoltaics in the Canton of Schwyz: the numbers
In the Canton of Schwyz, 5,027 photovoltaic systems with 156.4 MW are in operation, an average of 31.1 kWp per system. Remarkably, 16.7% of them are roof-integrated – the highest share in our region (Zurich 11.6%, Aargau 6.8%), as typically results from roof renovations and new builds where the modules replace the covering. Permits and notification: how it works in the Canton of Schwyz
Reasonably adapted roof systems in building and agricultural zones in the Canton of Schwyz only require notification (Art. 18a RPG, § 75a PBG). The notification is digital: via ebau-sz.ch as a «building notification for a minor project» to the municipality where the property is located.
- Deadline: submit at least 20 days before construction starts. If the notification remains without objection for 20 days, the project is considered approved.
- Documents: site plan including fire brigade plan, roof plan with dimensioned roof edge distances, roof section with construction height and product sheets; for facade systems on buildings over 11 m, also a fire safety concept.
- Building permit required: on properties in the cantonal protection inventory (KSI), in ISOS-A townscapes and for cultural and natural monuments – the cantonal GIS shows whether your address is affected.
- Commercial advantage: in industrial and commercial zones and zones for public buildings, roof and facade systems only require notification even if they do not meet the design criteria (§ 75a para. 4 PBG).

Shown separately: anything added in individual cases appears as its own item in the quote, not in a lump sum. The most common case: if the existing meter distribution board – the fuse box – is not suitable for the system and needs to be adapted, we invoice this separately. Depending on the property, official fees and work provided by the client may also apply.
Payment in stages, linked to project progress. Under our terms and conditions (AGB), that's 30% on placing the order, 50% on delivery of the main components and 20% after commissioning and acceptance. We agree different terms on a project basis; the arrangement in your quote always applies.
Who is liable for what
After the company bankruptcies in the Swiss solar industry, this is the question that counts in the end – and it has three different answers:
- Product and performance warranties lie with the manufacturer of the modules, inverter and storage. A manufacturer's warranty is only ever as reliable as the manufacturer behind it – that's why, when choosing products, we also consider who will still be reachable if something goes wrong.
- The installation warranty lies with us: installation, electrical work, commissioning. That's the part we honour directly.
- Business liability insurance: as an installation company, we carry liability insurance.
