Which two models does AEW offer?
With the new Electricity Act, AEW restructured its remuneration model in 2026 – and, unlike many utilities, passed the decision on to producers:

The core of the difference: with the fixed price, you sell energy and the ecological added value (GO) as a package at a guaranteed price. With the market model, you keep the GO but bear the electricity market's price risk – cushioned on the downside by the statutory minimum remuneration.
Fixed price or market price: which suits whom?
The uncomfortable truth first: you only know the «right» choice in hindsight, because it depends on how the market price develops. A few pointers from practice:
In favour of the fixed price is predictability – 8.2 Rp. is 8.2 Rp., whatever the market does. And the structure of the solar market itself: solar systems all feed in at the same time, at midday and in summer. Precisely in those hours they push market prices down – so the market model tends to pay little exactly when your system delivers the most.
In favour of the reference market price is that it can lie well above the fixed price during high-price phases, and the GO stays with you. Anyone who follows developments and readjusts the choice each year can actively manage the model.
Our general assessment for the typical single-family-home system: the fixed price including GO is the calmer product and saves you from watching the market every year. More important than the model choice anyway is self-consumption – more on that below.
What conditions apply for the fixed price?
The fixed price requires surrendering the GO, and that has formal conditions. Your system must – cumulatively –
- be directly connected to AEW's distribution grid and registered with Pronovo,
- be certified by an auditor (original held at Pronovo) and registered for GO trading,
- be eligible for naturemade-star certification (commissioned from the year 2000, not free-standing),
- operate outside the feed-in remuneration system (EVS/formerly KEV) and receive no extra-cost financing,
- have a capacity between 2 and 30 kW.
Registration runs via the AEW customer portal (aew.ch/portal); AEW then sets up the GO standing order with Pronovo, which you confirm via an email link. Sounds like paperwork – it is, but it's a one-off.
What deadlines do you need to know?
The model choice does not apply retroactively; quarterly submission deadlines apply in the customer portal for switching to the fixed price:

Two rules on this: existing systems make the choice before the start of the year each time; for new systems, the choice can be made once for the rest of the year. And: without an active cancellation, the chosen model automatically renews for another year.
What does this mean for the economics of your system?
Whether a fixed 8.2 Rp. or a fluctuating market price – feed-in remuneration is, in every scenario, well below what you pay for purchased electricity. So the ranking stays the same even in AEW's area: every kilowatt-hour you consume yourself is the most valuable. Shift consumption into sunshine hours, couple a heat pump or EV with production, calculate a battery if your profile fits – only after that does the model choice decide the rest.

On commissionings in AEW's area, we repeatedly see the same idle waste: the system is feeding in, but the model choice and the GO standing order in the customer portal were never triggered – the producer ends up on the default model and leaves the GO share on the table. The second classic case is a missed quarterly deadline, which pushes the fixed-price start back by three months. Neither costs a fortune, but it is money given away for ten minutes of portal work – which is why we have made the registration a fixed item on our commissioning checklist.

Can I switch between the models every year?
Yes – the choice applies per calendar year, and existing systems decide anew before the start of the year. Without cancellation, the chosen model automatically renews for another year.
What is the minimum I get under the market model?
The statutory minimum remuneration under the Energy Ordinance protects small systems from extreme low-price phases. AEW publishes the currently applicable value in its «Reference market price» product sheet.
Why is the AEW fixed price lower than the Zurich remunerations?
Do I absolutely need the auditor's certification for the fixed price?
Yes – the fixed price includes the GO, and its acceptance requires the certification and Pronovo registration. On new systems, a reputable installer organises the certification as part of commissioning.
Is the remuneration paid out monthly?
No, quarterly – or it is carried forward to the next invoice. The amounts actually fed into the grid are decisive.
